Week Two

HEEEEEYYYY!!!

I'm surrounded by elders in the laundry room right now but your email made me laugh so many times out loud they keep staring at me.

I'm so glad I got to call you! I'm sure I'll be able to again on tuesday. I have 27 hours of traveling to do after all. Ewwwww...

I did go to the morning dedication. It was really special. And I was in tears during "spirit of god" singing with all the elders. I felt like everyone was lacking in "vigor and vim" for the shout too.

Ahhh! I have so many things I wanna tell you. This will just be a quick mixture of stories:

1. Sister Doraiswamy is from India and the other day we were eating roast chicken and she mentioned how she felt awkward eating it with a fork and knife, that she was used to using her hands. I thought she meant hold with both hands, bring to mouth, so I said it's fine if she did. She jumped right in and using ONE hand shredded the chicken off the bone, not even looking at it, and ate it like that. it was INCREDIBLE!

2. We got all our "investigators" to commit to church this week. I'm learning so much from practicing our lessons. And Sister Nakatsuka is so nice and lets me practice them in italian to her, I just provide both ends of the conversation. But it helps to have someone to talk at. Last time we taught our teacher Sister Allen she tricked us and had the whole class watch our lesson through the mirror/window in the room. Ahhh! Very intimidating.

3. Sister Phagwah made me laugh really hard in class the other day. Firstly cause she's only like 80 pounds and secondly because when we were practicing the word of the wisdom lesson the other day sister fullmer was teaching her and asked what her name was (we always make up new names when we role play) and she said "tobacco."

4. I keep thinking of the part in Nacho Libre when he says something to the effect of "We keep losing because you have not been baptized!" "We keep losing because you are fat!" Words of wisdom.

5. I leave the MTC at 8:00am on tuesday. My flight from salt lake is at 11:00.

6. Yesterday was in-field orientation all day long. It was exhausting but we got to go to lots of workshops about finding, keeping high expectations, working with members, having faith... I realized I have no idea how I would start a conversation with someone in the airport or on the bus. But I am PUMPED!!!

7. A little bit about my zone- they're mostly from other countries and i just love them all. i can't rememer if I mentioned this already but the girls in my room are from bolivia, philipines, guyana, brazil and japan.

-Elder Anofils is a haitian from florida who loves to go on long spiels that sound like this: "we are HERE, to preach the GOSPEL, and bring SOULS, unto CHRIST..." he can't say his r's so it's extra hilarious.

yesterday he was spieling about lazy and obese americans and i said "OH YEAH!" and shoved a Huge bite of pizza into my mouth. and then almost choked from laughing so hard.

-Elder Ardeche is our frenchie whose french accent is hilarious, everything you would expect and wish for. He's big on manners, telling us yesterday you should never lean over your plate, but bring the fork back to your mouth to which i responded "and thats when you spill all over your cute outfit". as he continued his etiquette spiel i brought my cereal bowl to my mouth and very loudly slirped my milk. and then had to keep myself from spitting i was laughing so hard.

8. i forgot to mention my first day i heard one of the elder's names was cajun. dang it.

Well, next time I email I'll be in my beloved ITALIA!

I'm so excited! you might think that i don't know a butt-load of crap about the gospel, but i doooo.

LOVE YA,

Sister Cajin Rain.

Week One

HEY FAMRY! AND MY BELOVED EVERYONE!
I AM ALIVE!

FIRST DAY:
As we drove down the "parade" route we saw my brother Bodie and yelled to him and he chased us down the hill and got to hug us all.
Thank heavens! I was praying so hard I would see someone I know right away and it happened! And then he took me back and passed me off to my friends Lisa Smitty and Katie Tehrani (friend from study abroad). Smitty is now in Taiwan with Bodie and Katie left for Singapore.
So Smitty took me around and when I got my name tag Sister Starley from my single's ward put it on me and she was so sweet even though I was a blubbering idiot bawling my eyes out.

My comp. is Sorella Ansted and we're best buds! Seriously, we quote movies together all the day long and laugh really really hard at stupid things. And she took some italian at the Y so she's picking everything up really quickly.
(The elder next to me just put on socks with his sandals to show how proud he is for having gone to BYU, op, now he's shoving them in my face.)
Peeps I've seen: Cadets Marx, Curriden, Souza and Crandall from ROTC. A couple people from timpview who i never really knew but we exchange awkward smiles. Annie Horne and Emma Brooks are in charge of our cleaning service on tuesdays. And Jenni Buckley is in my zone. It's great to see her every day.

So Wednesday night we had a "teaching experience" where we watched elders open a lesson with an "investigator" and then they would leave and our group (about 70 of us) had to continue the lesson. I participated in all of them. And then in the 3rd one the devilishly handsome, french, teacher asked me and Sor. Ansted to start off the lesson. We were horrified! But we did it! We started with Jose, a guy who just moved to Orem from Guatemala (woot woot!) so we chatted about Guatemala a little bit and asked about his religious background and gave a brief synopsis about the Bible and Jesus and following his example.

THURSDAY:
Got a flu shot. My arm still hurts. It must have the flu. Is that normal?

FRIDAY:
We started teaching our investigator "Pietro." It's not so convincing because we saw his garments. We've taught him about the restoration, the priesthood, the Word of Wisdom, the spirit, the BoM so far and we've improved lots in the smoothness of our lessons. We asked him to be baptized by the authority of the priesthood and he said he would have to think about it. :)
We had our first gym time. We played 5 on 5 soccer with some other sisters and I scored 2 goals. Since then we've been playing volleyball.

SUNDAY:
was lovely. Sheri Dew spoke to us for relief society, it was incredible! I always imagined her to be a weak little timid woman but she's so powerful and sassy!
I went to choir practice. We sang "Precious Savior, Dear Redeemer" and it was gorgeous! and there's a part where all the men get louder and louder and louder, could they get any louder? yes they do! and then we all come in with 6 parts and it blows your mind! love those man voices.

OTHER:
Bodie left tuesday. I said bye to him monday night at dinner. Which was wretched and agonizing, especially after when I had to go sit down and eat my dinner and the elders next to me were avoiding eye contact as i wiped my tears away. Don't worry we took a bunch of cute pichahs togeddah.
I also saw the Kohlers sunday.

I FOUND OUT YESTERDAY I'LL ONLY BE IN 3 WEEKS!
The guy in charge of it was on his HONEYMOON! why now??? I dunno, but it was agony waiting.

FUNNIES:
1. I told Sor. Ansted about the story when Aunt McCaye read in her companion's planner: "Kill Sister Christianson". She says that to me all the time now.
2. Fratello Pesci (our teacher, his name means fishes) asked Anziano Chipman "Quanti fratelli ha?/ How many siblings do you have?" "ho...quattro....fratel, fratell, fratelli......" "Bravo, ha quattro fratelli." "Oh, I have 3." Priceless.
3. We were all really tired on friday and not participating as much as usual. Fra. Pesci was asking every practice questions and he asked someone "Satana ha fede nel piano di Gesu' Cristo?/ Does Satan have faith in Christ's plan?" One of the elders answered but pronounced Satan wrong, so Fra. Pesci said "SA-tana, everyone repeat, SA-tana". It was the most energetic  anyone had been all day when we practically screamed "SATANA!". hilarious.
4. Anziano Faggioli is from orem and knows the kippies. His name means "beans". His district calls him "faggiolaccio"= bad bean. HA.
5. I wore the bright red lipstick Livi gave me yesterday. It made me feel sassy.

LOVES AND SNUGGLES,
Caj- Sorella Christianson
